Bumper ski season

February 8th, 2008 Posted in News | No Comments »

Appears a combination of cheap holidays and flights together with some of the best skiing conditions for years has meant a bumper 2008 ski season. It is estimated over 3 million Brits will hit the ski slopes this winter. Insure and Go one of the UK’s leading travel insurers have published some detailed research on just how well prepared people are for their winter holiday trip to the mountains. Their research comes to the conclusion that there will be lots of unprepared, untrained skiers and snowboarders venturing out for the first time this season. Accidents and ski injuries are on the up and are seemingly more likely to happen to the inexperienced, unprepared skier or snow boarder. So very important to be covered against accidents and injuries on the slopes   There are many figures banded about by insurers and the media on just how many people hit the piste without any winter holiday insurance cover, estimates ranges from 10% to 25%  Better to be safe than sorry  so if you are considering a skiing holiday this year get covered, check out cost and cover available on line at www.theidol.com where you can obtain a comparative on line quotation for your ski holiday insurance

FSA to regulate all forms of travel insurance

January 29th, 2008 Posted in News | No Comments »

After much deliberation and consultation the government has requested that the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the UK’s financial watchdog  regulate all forms of travel insurance. Currently  travel insurance is not regulated when it is sold by a person who is also arranging the travel, for example travel agents, it is also not regulated when sold in connection with travel arrangements (eg a holiday or a flight). This two tier situation of the regulation and the non regulation of travel insurance depending on where and how a customer buys the insurance has been under the spotlight for some time from both the media and consumer groups as it can cause misunderstandings and confusion for people purchasing travel insurance

New Health Research And Its Effects On Life Insurance

January 9th, 2008 Posted in News | No Comments »

The UK government has recently been heading a campaign to make Britain a healthier nation.

Addressing general health and preventative medicine, the Prime Minister has promised every adult in the UK will receive a free health MOT. Screening for conditions such as heart disease and diabetes will be among the tests and will be phased in over the next few years.

Screening for vascular disease, which is the primary cause of heart failure and strokes affecting 6.2 million people and bringing about the death of 200,000 of those per year, will begin in the over 60’s later this year. This effectively brings the benefits of private health care into the public domain.

Life Insurance For Road Kill

I’m organising an uprising of the bunny population. We are sick of our life insurance premiums going through the roof!

Humans have no respect for us. The Easter bunny is a sign of the rising fertility of the earth, you’d think they would be more grateful. Modern day Greeks know the importance of our life giving properties which is why they still colour all their Easter eggs red in recognition to the renewal of life in the springtime.

The word Easter comes from an ancient pagan goddess of the spring named Eostre. According to folklore, she saved a bird from certain death after its wings had frozen by turning it into a rabbit. Once a rabbit, it still had its bird like ability to lay eggs, hence Easter eggs.

Going Round The Bends For Life Insurance

The flights are booked, the life insurance scrutinized to make sure critical illness is covered and the hotel booked.

We’re on a long haul flight to New Zealand and have remembered to implement all the procedures to avoid thrombosis. Walking around is not easy in economy class – it’s more of a sideways step/shuffle but it gets the blood flowing.

Our main goal is to get in some good scuba diving around the North Island. We’ve taken our own BCD’s (Buoyancy Control Devices), wet suits, regulators, fins and masks. All we need to do is hire the air tanks when we get there.

An Unfair Clause In Car Insurance

December 13th, 2007 Posted in News | 1 Comment »

It’s that time of year again and I need to renew my car insurance. I hate this bit. It’s always so complicated!

I’ve been trying for reindeer’s years to get my premiums down but it just goes in the other direction. I’m told it’s because of all the factors influencing car insurance that are pushing up my premiums but you’d think with my history, it would be an advantage.

For a start, I don’t drive a conventional car – I fly a sleigh. Technically not a car but with the absence of wings, it’s not a plane either. Unique, they say, equals expensive. I don’t think that’s fair as they have nothing to compare it to but that is the rule.

Confronting The Unthinkable

The thought of insuring a child’s life is not something many people wish to entertain.

When it comes to life insurance parents deal with themselves, particularly in advancing years but also especially when they have begin to have their own children.

The parents consider the need to protect their child against financial difficulties should anything happen to them. There are funeral expenses, debts to pay up, homes to secure, education to continue and a lifestyle to fund.

Parents may even plan ahead for the unpredictability of contracting a long term illness to protect the family concerns and ease the burden on their children.
